My name is Zelan [tsɤː2 læn2]. I was born and raised in Canton, mainland China. For as long as I can recall, I have been passionate about Chinese history and culture. Because of this enduring passion, I earned a bachelor’s degree in History and a master’s in Cultural Heritage and Museology. Currently, I am pursuing my Ph.D. in Chinese History of Art in Hong Kong. I am proud of being a scholar in my field. We study the abundant excavated, extant, and handed-down historical materials (c. wenwu 文物, litr. “cultural things”), which convey long-lost messages from the ancient world. My current research deals with Buddhist art in medieval China, the period that Buddhist art reached a heyday when numerous rock-cut temples and free-standing sculptures flourished across the continent.
