Hello Family & Friends!

I am sure you know that the patriarch of the Kipp clan (a.k.a. Dave, Dad, BopBop, Uncle David, etc.) has been an avid photographer and traveler most of his life. As such, he has captured not only the stunning beauty of the Adirondacks and many other places he has traveled, but also the history of the Kipp clan. He has faithfully recorded vivid images of everything from new babies, birthday parties, Halloween costumes, proms and weddings, to sports events, musical concerts, juggling shows and cousin camping trips. (As well as a healthy dose of North American canal history).

Most of Dad’s valuable collection of photos is in the form of Kodak slides (15,000 of them!) As a result, perusing this Kipp family visual history and gorgeous photography requires requesting an hours-long slide show in the Kipp living room, complete with projector, slide trays, personal narrative from the photographer himself, and a bowl of ice cream. Undoubtedly, these slides are a family treasure that we want to preserve and enjoy for years to come. Several of the family have suggested that Dad/BopBop digitize his collection so that the photos could not only be preserved, but also accessible for sharing, printing or creating albums (even without the ice cream). This idea is highly welcomed by Dad, but the immensity of the task and the costs involved have seemed daunting.

Until now...As the Kipp Daughters were recently exploring options, it came to light that Rebekah Connell’s boyfriend Evan’s father, Howard Bussey, not only owns the proper type of scanner for this kind of project, but is willing to lend his equipment to our family. Rebekah (a granddaughter and trained archivist) researched software and storage options, and offered to serve as point person for getting the project up and running. In fact, she is staying with Grammy and BopBop this weekend to help them get it started! Kristen, Leah and Jen have offered to learn the process as well and plan to help with digitizing over the next few months.
