I am a Trinidadian-British artist inspired by the Caribbean environment where I live. Sometimes playfully but with a serious undercurrent, I seek to examine issues affecting tropical Small Island Developing States and youth. Two major themes underlie current work. First, relationships between humans and the natural world are explored. Second, connections between identity, beauty and mental health are examined; issues affecting youth influenced by electronic media and globalisation. I use local carnival art forms such as wire-bending and papier-mâché with natural materials in my sculptures, and a variety of media for my pictures. I aim to experiment with further media in examining social issues and advancing my skills as I proceed in my artistic career.
