My first real camera just sort of fell from the sky. I put no thought into it at all. I was in high school and had wandered into a Chicagoland camera store to see what a real ILC camera looked like (I had been using a 110 camera) and to hold one for a moment. The salesman sold me a used Praktica with a 50mm f/2.8 lens that was wrapped in a hard leather case and attached to a colorful, woven hippie strap. I was putty in his hands but he sold it to me for a song. That camera started me down a long and winding road that has enriched my life. God bless that leisure suit wearing camera dude behind the counter.
