I started shooting trains in 1986. I made my first attempts in my home area in the northern part of The Netherlands. The shooting soon expanded throughout the Netherlands and the former West-Germany. My first visit to Poland in the winter of 1991 was a breaking point in my photography. A combination of steam (steam locomotives still operated in daily passenger and freight service) and winter light (with twilight and back light) presented a new challenge in my photography. I saw people involved in the railways: workers in harsh working conditions, travelers and passers-by. I became fascinated by black and white photography, portraits and abstract or industrial environment. The night always has always been an important theme in my photography.

I'm still on my way, looking for the ultimate Landscapes, using different lighting conditions, and taking pictures of beautiful train people. I keep discovering new angles and new possibilities. I also do a lot of non train projects.
