DeepEndoftheSpool
Drag to set position!
Deep End of the Spool is an ongoing descent into photography as obsession, experiment, and way of seeing. Analog and digital, old and new, half-frame to medium format, elegant cameras and awkward ones all belong here together. I’m interested in cameras less as technical trophies and more as strange little machines that shape attention, memory, and feeling in different ways. I'm learning, exploring, and following the rabbit hole wherever it leads.
Alongside my wife @tracimatlock, we're a two-person collective of film-obsessed photographers who make still and moving images with any camera we get in our hands. We met in the early 2000s and, after many side quests, are now a married duo creating kindness, chaos, and the pleasure of seeing. Together.
Born on different continents & hemispheres, we currently live and work in Houston, Texas but always love the excuse to travel. Existential beauty, impossible awkwardness, and the unbearable decadence of being are our favorite things to photograph. Plus many, many sunsets.
You’re invited to contact us if you want to collaborate on either side of the camera, trade camera stories, or simply go on photo walks with us.
