A railfan for virtually my entire life, I currently reside in southern California. I was raised in Connecticut and actively watched trains from the mid-70s on, including the last days of Penn Central, then Conrail, with Boston & Maine, Maine Central being popular for us (my brother Neal and I, along with our good railfan buddies the Shaw brothers). We made several excursions down to New Jersey and other spots on the electrified Northeast Corridor and were privileged to see GG1s, then Amtrak E60s, then AEM7s as well as E33 and E44 freight electrics, and also plenty of old E-units that ran between New Haven and Springfield, MA until replacement by F40PHs. I was also fortunate to see the ill-fated Amtrak SDP40Fs from the mid-70s until their short life ended by 1987, even riding behind them in a 1976 trip on Amtrak's Champion. Also we made a few trips into Chessie and D&H territory in the early 80s. In 1982 me and my late good friend Don Shaw rode Amtrak west to California, Utah and Seattle, Washington, including the famed Tehachapi Loop. In 1993 I relocated to western North Carolina. There I saw some decent NS and CSX action. Sadly, I lost all but two of my pics taken while there (both are posted here). Eventually I ended up moving from the Right to the Left Coast, residing in southern California since 2010, but not real active as a railfan until mid-2022, although I managed excursions to Tehachapi in 2010 and Cajon Pass in 2016.
