El color constituye una parte primordial de nuestra experiencia visual que la fotografía, durante un largo periodo de su historia, solo pudo traducir mediante una gama de grises que iban del blanco al negro.

 

Al ver en la actualidad muchas de esas viejas fotografías no podemos olvidar que el pasado fue tan vívido y lleno de color como es nuestro presente y es natural preguntarse por la apariencia que podrían tener de haber existido la fotografía en color, tal y cómo las vio el ojo del fotógrafo.

 

Este blog recrea el color de fotografías célebres de la historia que la cámara del fotógrafo no pudo captar.

 

Sin discutir el valor histórico de los originales en blanco y negro, a menudo vemos como estas viejas imágenes ya en color, cobran ante nuestros ojos una insospechada vida nueva. En cualquier caso, se muestran el original y la versión en color para una mejor apreciación.

 

La mayor parte de las imágenes provienen de repositorios públicos, catálogos en línea y redes sociales (Flickr, Wikimedia Commons, Library of Congress, Reddit, Wikipedia, etc.). En la medida de lo posible se intenta siempre acreditar al autor de las fotografías.

The past in color: colorization and digital restoration of old photographs from history.‎

If photography had been invented in color, no one would miss black and white.

Color is an essential part of our visual experience that photography, for a long period of its history, could only translate through a range of grays from black to white.

 

Looking at many of these old photographs today, we cannot forget that the past was as vivid and colorful as our present and it is natural to ask what they might have looked like if color photography had existed, as seen by the eye of the photographer.

 

This blog recreates the color of famous photographs from history that the photographer's camera could not capture.

 

Without disputing the historical value of the black and white originals, we often see how these old images, now in color, have an unexpected new life before our eyes. In any case, the original and the color version are shown for a better appreciation.

 

Most of the images come from public repositories, online catalogs and social networks (Flickr, Wikimedia Commons, Library of Congress, Reddit, Wikipedia, etc.). As far as possible, we always try to credit the author of the photographs.
