National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA)

The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) is an agency of the Ministry of Education mandated by the Education Act, 2008 (Act 778) to develop national curriculum and assessment standards for pre-tertiary educational institutions.

 

NaCCA consists of representatives of major education stakeholders, including the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, National Council for Tertiary Education, Council for Technical and Vocational Education Training, National Board for Professional and Technical Examinations, Ghana Book Development Council, the West African Examinations Council, Ghana National Association of Teachers, Christian Council of Ghana, Federation of Muslim Councils, Association of Ghana Industries, Ghana Employers Association, National Catholic Secretariat, Ghana Federation for the Disabled, Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, National Accreditation Board and Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council.

 

Vision

The vision of NaCCA is “delivering a world class curriculum for quality educational provision for

all Ghana’s children”. This vision finds expression in the progressive realisation of best practices

with exceptionally high standards in the development of curriculum.

 

Mission

NaCCA’s mission is “to develop a curriculum that ensures Ghana’s children are lifelong learners with s heightened sense of national identity and global citizenship”.

Object and Functions

The broad functions of NaCCA are to:

•Develop national curriculum and assessment standards for pre-tertiary institutions

•Determine the goals, aims and structure of courses at the various levels of pre-tertiary education

•Ensure an inclusive and representative curriculum development process

•Make recommendations to the Minister on the number of core and elective subjects

•Review national assessments and ensure that appropriate procedures are followed

•Set up new structures to assess teaching and learning at the various levels of schools

•Review subjects and recommend new subjects as and when the subjects become necessary for the educational system

•Perform any other functions relevant to the objects of the Council
