I am a hydrobiologist, retired since 2007. I did my doctorate on a marine fisheries biology topic, but then spent 35 years working on environmental investigations and reports, first at university, and then as head of an office and laboratory (pollutants in soil and groundwater, remediation of contaminated sites, see also www.r-wienberg.de).

I first did macro photography as a hobby ca 1968-1982. Since 2021, I am active at www.observation.org as one of 400,000 observers worldwide. This is a "global biodiversity platform for citizen science and monitoring." Until 2024, I have made 325 observations of insects and arachnids with foto documentation of 150 species/species groups. Focus: Hamburg, and especially our small (35 m^2) "backyard garden." I made 125 observations in this garden.

The fotos must be clearly recognizable for species identification, but I also want them to be "beautiful." I want to show the insects and spiders in interaction with their environment, especially with their pray or flowers. My technical equipment is minimalistic: a small "point and shoot" camera for my jacket pocket, the Panasonic LF1 with a macro lens 1:2 Vario Summicron from Leica. I have now prepared the photos that I like best for FLICKR-com and would be very happy to receive some feedback.

Ich habe über ein marin-fischereibiologisches Thema promoviert, mich dann 35 Jahre lang mit Umwelttechnik beschäftigt, erst an der Hochschule, dann als Leiter eines Büros und Labors (Schadstoffe in Boden und Grundwasser, Altlastensanierung, siehe www.r-wienberg.de .
