Jeremy (Jez) Donaldson, born Newcastle-on-Tyne, England.

Currently scanning my dad's (Ronald "Ronnie" Donaldson) old photos from his travels with the RAF spanning WWII and a few years either side. Dad was born in Shieldfield, Newcastle in September 1915, 6th son of a Chimney Sweep. He did not get along with his father and joined the RAF in 1935 aged just 19, to get away from home. He spent a number of years in the middle-east in the late 1930s and many of his photos were taken there. A talented soccer and water polo player, he often played in RAF teams, which enabled him to travel and see perhaps more of the countries that he visited than did many of his colleagues. Dad always carried an old Agfa box camera with him and made notes on the back of many of his prints, capturing the names of his friends and colleagues, locations and dates.
