So, a little about me…

My interest in photography began in my early teens when I saved up enough pocket money to buy a Kodak Instamatic 133 camera. This was the model that featured the revolving flash cube which plugged into the top of the camera and provided four flashes! A few years later I purchased my first SLR camera which was a Praktica Super TL. Even though this was considered an entry level camera at the time, my purchasing decision was influenced by the fact that it had interchangeable lenses and through-the-lens (TTL) metering. I eventually upgraded to the Pentax system during the 1980's and stuck with them for many years. However, due to their slow uptake to digital technology, I moved over to the Canon system in 2013 and have stayed with Canon for the past 14 years.

That was until recently…

Following much research and deliberation, I made the decision to sell all of my Canon gear and concentrate purely on iPhone photography. I know the purists among you will think the iPhone is not a “real” camera and I am the first to agree. It certainly has its limitations but for me and the type of photography I enjoy it has proved to be the ideal compromise. At the age of 72 I no longer need to carry heavy cameras and lenses around or buy expensive equipment. I have a phone in my pocket wherever I go that takes decent quality photos. This decision has given me the freedom to see far more photo opportunities and take many more photos than I ever used to.

Being retired I also have a little more time to enjoy my photography. My favourite genres are macro and landscape although I enjoy taking photographs of virtually anything and everything.

I have visited Flickr on many occasions over the years and love the warm, friendly atmosphere and the overall feel of the site. I find the lack of trolling and disrespect that is prevalent on so many social sites these days to be truly refreshing. It’s such a good feeling to know there are still so many wonderful people in this beautiful world we live in. I thought the time was now right to start contributing more and share some photos of my own and maybe even make some new friends. I very much enjoy responding to all comments and messages so please let me know what you think of my photos, good or bad.
