C’est à mon père que je dois ma découverte de la photographie. D’une science complexe (ASA, diaphragme, vitesse, posemètre …) émergeait cet art capable de figer nos souvenirs, nos émotions quand il ne s’agissait pas de créer un effet, un trompe l’œil. Avec mon premier réflexe un Pentax SF7 argentique sans autofocus, nous sommes en 1989, je pratique, je prends des notes techniques sur chaque prise de vue et attends le tirage pour vérifier. La photographie numérique est arrivée entre mes mains en 2002 avec un Nikon Coolpix 4300 acquis avant de partir pour 2 ans au Texas, il me suivra partout et immortalisera pendant des années certains instants de ma vie et de mon itinéraire. En 2009 retour au réflex, d’abord en APSC avec un Nikon D90, puis en 2020 le plein format avec un D750. Avec les années l’instinct, le parti pris artistique ont supplanté les réflexions techniques, les réglages. J’aime suspendre le mouvement, en créer un, jouer des lumières … peu importe la pellicule est sans fin … Aujourd’hui nouveaux défis, le smarphone a mis l’objectif dans la poche, les retouches à portée de doigt. C’est un nouvel univers que je fais coexister avec celui du réflex numérique. Le cliché instantané né pour être retravaillé à coté du cliché construit, travaillé, réfléchi mais livré brut comme la toile après le passage du pinceau.

J’aime les villes peu importe leur taille, les rues surtout s’il y a du monde, l’architecture plutôt moderne pour les reflets sur le verre, la nuit pour un autre jeux d’ombre et de lumière.

I owe the discovery of photography to my father. At first it was a complex science, but it slowly became this poetic mechanism giving to anyone the ability to capture memories and emotions for the eternity. It eventually also evolved in an art of creating an effect, a movement or a “trompe l’oeil”. With my first reflex a Pentax SF7 argentic without autofocus, I practice, I take notes about the settings, the point of view et patiently wait for the printing to contemplate the results of my experiments. I got my hands on numerical photography in 2002 with a Nikon Coolpix 4300. I bought it just before leaving for two years in Houston, I always had it in hand. It immortalized many moments of my life and of my journey during many years. In 2009 back to the reflex, first in APSC with a Nikon D90, then in 2020 with a full-frame D750. Years passing by, the instinct, the artistic turn have supplanted any technical …, settings. I love to steel the movement, to create one, to play with lights and shadows… it’s limitless… Today, I challenge myself with a new device: the smartphone which enables anyone to have an objective in hand and allows “retouche” in a click. Without abandoning the reflex, I try to make both coexisting with two different approaches: the smartphone to work on the photo, the reflex for complex and worked photos.

I love cities no matter their size, streets especially when they are crowded, modern architecture for the reflect on the glass, the night for an other game between light and shadow.
