My photographs appear to be abstract art, but they are literally photo realism…

My photographs appear as paintings. When I cut them up and paste them back on to themselves a whole new world appears. I don’t expect the viewer to see what I have in mind, since we are all unique, and see things differently.

It all began on my daily walks with a point and shoot Canon camera. Some photographers take pictures of insects and flowers; I shoot the street. These photographs on a macro setting are full of detail. The work focuses on capturing the mundane and transforming it into something extraordinary. They have attributes of a microscopic mysticism with a cosmic effect.

As I progressed, I developed a method of cutting-up the prints and pasting them back onto themselves creating a sensation of movement and a muti-faced refraction of form. The images merge, push, and pull. I emphasize the visual drama by using a strong composition, contrasting values, and a myriad of colors.

My inspiration comes from a multitude of stimuli: a book, a film, a piece of music, a field, another artist’s work; almost anything will send me on the creative process.
