Michael Rayner- Beyond the Ordinary

Ex press/photojournalist/ magazine /sports/corporate photographer/book producer . My photographic journey began in 1968 as a cadet photographer starting way back as a cadet photographer for a major with a major city newspaper.

Now retired, but then photographers never really do retire, do they? I continue to explore the world through the lens capturing light and form and I'm drawn increasingly to landscapes, natural forms and scenes with an abstract quality-photographs that invite curiosity,imagination and a sense of mystery.

My early years were shaped by film, working with with 120mm and 35mm black and white film, Nikon systems, Mamiya and Hasselblad cameras, and the distinctive characteristic traits of Ilford,Kodak,Fuji and Kodachrome film stock. That foundation in seeing and composition continue to influence my digital work today.

My current photography is centred around my Nikon Z8 and OM System equipment, chosen to balance image quality with lightnessand the freedom to explore,travel and observe.

After more than five decades behind the camera, I remain fascinated by the simple challenges that first drew me to photograohy:finding something extraordinary within the ordinary.
