As you can tell from my photostream, I'm a self-confessed train nerd. The obsession began back when I was a 10-year-old in the mid-70s, fueled by the glorious sound of diesel engines and, well, a lot of free time. This train madness continued into the early 80s, but in 1982, I hit the brakes. Why? I discovered girls, cars, and life—basically, the holy trinity of teenage distractions. Then came the usual stuff: work, marriage, kids… you know, the whole "adulting" package. My railway enthusiasm got tucked away like a long-forgotten jumper in the back of the closet.
Fast forward to 2020, and like everyone else on the planet, I found myself locked inside during the pandemic, which led to the obligatory attic clean-out. Lo and behold, I stumbled upon my old railway photos! Taken with my trusty Praktica MTL3 SLR 35mm in the early '80s, these gems brought all those nerdy train feels flooding back. Cue the dramatic return of my railway photography phase (Part II).
Now, armed with a shiny new Pentax K70 DSLR—yes, Pentax, I know, I’m a rebel—I’m back out there snapping rail shots. Not the most popular camera brand, but hey, it does the job and doesn’t break the bank. My collection here is a visual scrapbook of the stuff I love—trains. Lots of trains.
Huge thanks to those who follow or hit the “favourite” button! Let’s face it, rail photography is kind of niche, so every ‘like’ feels like I’ve won the lottery (or at least found a fiver in an old coat pocket).
Anyway, enough of my train ramblings—enjoy my collection!
