TJHawke Resident
Drag to set position!
Greetings, and thanks for dropping by! I appreciate it. :)
You've probably found me via my Second Life if you're here. Occasionally, I post pics of my Second Life dating adventures and other derring-do. Keeping my Flickr updated is a hobby, so I'm off a schedule to do it. (To be notified of my updates, it's best to follow me; I'll follow you in return, provided you're not an SL business hawking wares.)
And, yes, my username here is my Second Life username. Please feel free to IM me in Second Life with your curious questions, general comments, wonderful praises, snide remarks, and decadent desires to be pictured here, shall we say "collaborating?" with me in Second Life. Feel free to read my SL profile for more about me in the virtual space. A lot more.
Aside from a scattering of staged ones, most of the photos were taken in the moment. So if they inspire real emotion in you, know there was also real emotion when they were taken.
If I'm in the picture somehow, I'll tag me. While there may be other male avatars in the picture, with all the photos I've posted, it's obvious which one I am. If the photos are tagged with other people's Flickr account names, that's who they are. If they're not tagged, they prefer to remain anonymous, don't have a Flickr account, or both.
The photo and album titles are inspired by something about when, where, or how the photos happened. Sorry if they're esoteric; you just had to be there.
And speaking of being there, yes, these "in the moment" photos have only been minimally post-processed in Photoshop because, while my real-life photography composition skills are abundant and classically trained, my post-processing and in-world Second Life environment manipulation skills are few and hopelessly amateurish.
I'd write more, but that would take time and effort away from the creating and posting I must do. Which is what you're here to do, right? To see rather than read? ;)
Enjoy!

Answers to Infrequently Asked Questions That Have Been Asked of Me
===============================================================
"What software do you use to capture the photos? And edit them later?" Firestorm is my SL viewer. (Yes, I know there are better ones for photography; I'm just lazy.) Gyazo to capture. Microsoft OneNote to catalog and document. Adobe Photoshop to edit. All of them are causal snaps. They would be classier if I had the time and talent to put the hours into each one. Curious about what that takes? Then read Brooke FiftyOne's About page for just one example.
"What's with all the clipping of the people, their parts, and the furniture?" Most of these photos are taken 'in the moment,' without the benefit of purposely posing for a minute or two, if I'm lucky. So, some disappearing hands and feet, sinking into the furniture, and odd expressions are to be expected. Just as one would experience if one took photos during their time in SL's virtual world, there may have been some quick post-production editing on my part, but nothing that would sully the picture's "truthiness?" If you're looking for photographic perfection, you'd best look elsewhere. ;)
"You take a lot of photos! Do you post all of them?" Heavens no! I bury my bloopers. ;) Since I largely depend on the object's animation cycle, there are plenty of times I'll take 3 or 4 shots to finally capture the right one.
"How come all the photos look the same?" I practice classic photographic composition: rule of thirds; golden ratio, filling the frame, leading lines, keeping balance, using frames, conveying depth, finding arresting viewpoints, and the like. This results in a documentary style with a particular look, like in news media. It's not better than more creative composition styles; it's just what appeals to me. If you look at my Favorites section, you'll see that I like other people's work, some of which are very stylistically different from mine.
"No, I mean, how come they all look the same? Same guy. Same place. Same types of shots." The shots look the same primarily because of five things. First, most of the time, the male avatar is mine. Second, the location is usually my SL home, Otisburg, where I know which objects - furniture, accessories, areas - do what. Since Fall 2022, I've been applying more of Firestorm's Phototools effects to varying degrees of success, adding more variety. Third, they're taken and shown primarily in sequence, forming a photo essay. So, several shots of a subject in a slightly different pose before moving on to the next. I happen to like taking and presenting them in this way. Fourth, and maybe most important, they are taken in about a minute or two. That's very little time for me to fiddle with the camera's options to achieve a more artsy style. Lastly, as mentioned above, the photos undergo only minimal post-production in Adobe Photoshop. They could to look artsy, but I don't have the time.
"Are these pictures in any kind of order?" Yes. Well. In a way. ;) They are either one-offs, two-shots, or a series of photos in a pictorial essay. If you're looking at my photos using Flickr's Photostream, you're drinking from the firehose. If you want to see the pictures in context and intended order, go to my Albums section, where I've methodically grouped and precisely ordered the photos within their album. Oh, and all the pictures have the date they were taken in parentheses, but they appear in my Photostream in whenever-I-get-around-to-it, rather than by date order.
"It seems like some photo sessions tell a complete story, and others start telling a story and end abruptly. What's up with that?" Real life and software crashes happen to cut some intended stories short. Sorry, but I may never to get back to telling them.
"Where do you find the time to take pictures 'in the moment?'" While my partner was writing her reply to my last message. Also, my partners have found my taking and sharing the photos during erotic RP quite enjoyable. Feel free to give it a whirl to spice up your SL's intimate moments. ;) Plus, I'm a touch typist with multiple decades of practice; I type at practically the speed of thought.
"Are you posting these photos just to prove you're having pixel sex in SL?" Have you viewed my entire collection? Maybe you should. ;)
"Do you have any videos?" Yes, see the Collaboration and Production Credits section below. I have RL and SL experience as an actor and crew member: videographer, editor, writer, and director. As I'm translating my RL audio / visual production skills to SL, I find it enjoyable, challenging, and - because I'm a bit of a perfectionist regarding video - a time sink. Eventually, as my confidence and skills grow in SL video making, I'll be involved in complex, extravagant, and challenging productions in front of and behind the camera. Willing collaborators welcome, especially if you have production skills I need to gain! You'll find my SL-based adult videos here.
"Why are there so few pictures of just you?" Why would I want to look at just me? ;) The photo collection displays enough of me, even in the metaphysical sense.
"Are you a bot?" No, I'm a flesh, blood, and sinew human. AI would be much better at virtual photography than I am. Though I'm not above using AI to copyedit text like this FAQ. ;)
"Why is your showcase named 'My Recent Favorites' rather than 'Showcase?'" Because I like all my published pictures. And, while it's true I don't like them all equally, my favorites shift over time. Choosing and maintaining that list from my body of work is something I avoid getting involved with. Instead, I've picked my favorite photos from my recent albums. For 'showcase-able' content, your best bet is to go with the crowd-sourced Most Popular Photos section below, as it features some excellent picks. Still, if I had to pick just one picture out of the thousands I've posted, this is my current favorite for various reasons. As time passes, though, I reserve the right to change my favorite.
"Will you publish to my flickr photo group?" You select the picture, and I almost always agree to publish it for your group. Occasionally, I'll post a handful of pictures to a few unmoderated groups. (Sorry, but I'm tired of keeping track of moderated group requirements and will decline all invites to join moderated groups.) I post links to in-world groups occasionally when I'm in SL. And I also enjoy being stumbled upon.
"These photos are great! Given how long you've been publishing them, how come you don't have more followers?" As Brooke FiftyOne observed, "The paradox of Flickr: if you're making photos for faves & views, you're missing the point of the art. But if nobody sees and appreciates your artistry, what is the point of posting it at all?" I don't know why they aren't more viewed and liked. Maybe it’s because I only publish to a few unmoderated Flickr groups? Perhaps because the pictures are too casual (re: documentarian or "newsy")? It may be because they're too erotic to attract a large, identifiable audience? Yes, I know there are lookers and lurkers out there! ;) My success is measured in two dimensions. First internally, personally, in technical, artistic, learning, growth, and quality ways. Then, I will go through external verification of my achievements, which, to me, is more than views and likes. It's that my photos, videos, chats, and participation - my work in general, in RL and SL - bring joy to others. And, really, that one person's minute being made a little brighter makes it all worthwhile. That personal gratification through others is difficult to quantify, so I'll qualify it. ;)
"Will you model for me?" If the project appeals to me, yes, and for free. I'm pretty interested in how others create, and it's sometimes possible for me to voice if that makes the shoot more effortless for you. However, my availability and your time zone are probably limiting factors. See the Collaboration and Production Credits section below for a growing list of projects I've modeled for.
"Will you hire me to model for you?" You do realize you're competing against free, right? ;) Next question, please.
"Would you take pictures for me?" Possibly because it depends on the project. If I accept the assignment, I'll do it for free, and I'll need your permission to post the pictures on my Flickr account. Again, my time zone and your availability are limiting factors.
"May I model with you?" Did you read the part about these being taken "in the moment?” ;) If that's OK with you and our schedules are in sync - which can be a big if - I'm quickly findable in Second Life as "TJHawke Resident." Feel free to drop me an IM or send a notecard through my SL profile or email me via the link below.
"When will you post the pictures of me?" Soon. Soon! ;) After I post them, I'll send you a link to the album. If there are any you'd like in SL's standard supported ratios and resolutions, contact me with the ones you want and the ratio you'd like them in, which is either 1:1, 10:7, 3:2, 16:10, 16:9, 2:1, or 4:3 which is SL's 1:1, 10:7, 3:2, 16:10, 16:9, 2:1, or 4:3 which is SL's avatar Profile picture ratio. So long as you're a Flickr member, you may download them from here.
"Are you a SL sex blogger?" I did not set out to be one, that's for sure! :D I'm just sharing my second life, which happens to include a lot of virtual dating, which sure seems to make me look like a SL sex blogger. I assure you that the similarity is unintentional, as only 51% of my second life is about virtual dating. The other 49% is primarily concerned with cats. There isn't much text to accompany the pictures, because who wants to write a lot of text when a picture is worth a thousand words? Not this guy! ;)
"Are you a hot?" Not since the 80s and 90s! :D There are several significant differences between real people and computer-generated pixels that you should know about, later. ;)
"I'm just getting started in SL photography. Got any tips?" Please have patience with yourself, get in a lot of practice, and shoot what you like in the way you like. Chiara's SL Photo Tips is a good getting-started guide for Firestorm. I hear 'real' SL photographers use the Black Dragon viewer. But I don't; ergo, I am not a 'real' SL photographer. ;)
"Why don't you curate your photos? Like, only post the good ones to tell a story?" In a way, they are curated in that I don't post every photo I take during an encounter. And many times, there is no discernible story - a beginning and ending - to tell. It's a series of snapshots of time spent with the same person.
"Do you take pictures of men other than you for your pictures?" Yes, but it's couples-based shots; as in, either the couples come to me to have their pictures taken, or I'm shooting a casting call. For various reasons that I won't get into here, I won't pair a gal with a guy they don't know for a shoot. Additionally, for multiple reasons that I won't go into here, I'm friends with very few SL and RL guys.
"Are you on any social media sites, like X, Facebook, Primfeed, Blogger, and the like?" Nope. I don't have enough time to get involved in that. However, if you have time for that and would like me to pose for a picture on your site, please ask, and I might be willing to do so. If you wish to repost a picture featuring you that I took on your site, please feel free, provided you attribute me as the photographer.
"I iz gunna downvote da shit outta u! Whut u think 'bout that, shithead???? Bwaaa-Hahahahhhaah!!" External verification of my self-worth comes from my many professional achievements and dear friends rather than from self-centered, envious, destructive, Internet-granted-anonymity-as-a-shield trolls. I can't stop you from getting your downvote jollies, but neither can you stop me from posting. By the way. Your evil laugh? It needs work. ;)
"Do you use generative AI to make your photos more realistic?" No, because I find it sullies the picture's "truthiness" too much. When looking at the picture, I want the viewer to see and be in the moment I and, usually, my friend(s) were in. Processing that picture through generative AI to make it 'real' is incongruous with that philosophy. However, I'm not above using generative AI to fix issues in post-production, like removing stray limbs or fixing partially rendered background objects. That's an extension of the tools I would have used to hand-edit the image anyway. Bonus points if you can find where I've used generative AI to fix those things. Consider it a treasure hunt. ;)
"Why is this About section so long?" Because brevity is not my soul's wit. If I had more time, it would be shorter. Believe that! ;)
