In this page I will show you some aircraft pictures from our old airport Munich Riem and later also from the first years of the new Munich airport. Most of them are from 1987 until 1992, when the airport was closed. Spotting at Riem was very good, because there was only one runway and it was possible to reach both ends of the runway (2.804 m, 7/25) from both sides. At most points you did not need a ladder because the wooden fence was only 1,40 m high. Traffic at Riem was quite interesting. All major European airlines could be seen, plus some US and Canadian Airlines. From Middle East Egypt Air, Syrian Air, EL AL / Arkia and Royal Jordanian (in the last years) were frequent visitors. From the african continent RAM, Tunis Air and Air Mauritius were frequent visitors. Thai Airways started in summer 1991 a weekly service to Bangkok and Garuda in spring 1992 one flight per week with MD 11. Even BWIA started in winter 1991 a flight to Port of Spain with L1011 for some months.

Charter traffic was brisk all around the year. Espacially in winter a lot of British and Scandinavian Airlines carried many tourists to Munich. Most of them arrived here to continue by bus to the Alps for ski-holidays. In summer many Turkish charters and some from Spain and Yugoslavia plus occaional traffic from the U.S. could be seen. Munich also is a popular exhibition location, so for example for the BAUMA or the "International Handwerksmesse" additional very interesting flights appaered.

All pictures are scans from prints, so quality is not so good.
