Hello and welcome to my Flickr gallery. My name is Ben and I have a passion for railway and landscape photography. The purpose of this particular site is to highlight my growing collection of modern image railway photos, with British Rail 'Type 5' freight locomotives (introduced in the UK during the 1980s and 1990s) being of a particular fondness along with classes 37 and 47. In time I will seek to set up a separate gallery for other photographic subjects, such as landscape and wildlife. I'm based in the East Midlands and have been practicing photography for over twenty years now, half of which has been using digital.

I currently use a Nikon Z6 mirrorless digital SLR camera with a 50mm F1.8 (S) lens and also a 24-70mm, both from the Nikon Z series range. I briefly owned a Nikon D850 which I used during the first half of 2020, along with a 50mm Sigma 'Art' lens. Prior to this I used a Canon EOS 6D mk1 and also a Nikon D700 some years before that.

One of the more interesting additions to the photography world in the last five to ten years has been the advent of pole photography, which allows images to be recorded at certain heights not normally attainable using more established methods. In some cases, it is also useful in elevating the camera above certain obstructions such as foliage or high fencing. As such, I currently use a 'Gardiner' SLX pole system (extendable up to twelve metres) with control of the camera being initiated through Wi-Fi, using an app known as Camranger 2 from the United States.
