Another old guy amateur who got more serious about a long-standing interest after retirement…
I shoot what I see. That may sound superficially obvious, but I have long been aware that we don’t always see that same thing, and I remember many years ago being told by a friend, while looking over photographs taken during a day of sightseeing, that “you were seeing well that day.” It stuck with me. I often see at my best in unfamiliar places, especially when traveling, and that’s still what accounts for most of my work. I’m mostly interested in nature — flora and fauna — and architecture, line and form and contrast. I like macros and monochrome. I don’t often shoot broad landscapes, but focus on something IN the landscape. I don’t do much with people or portraits, but enjoy capturing people in a particular context. And I’ll admit that sometimes I shoot what the lens shows me — when I’m feeling too lazy to change the lens for something I’m considering, but discover there’s another view I like with the lens that’s currently attached.
My deepest appreciation and gratitude to anyone who finds my work worth their attention!
