I am retired and live in the East Midlands. I am married with a son and daughter and four grandchildren. Since about the age of 7 I've been interested in railways. During 1965, when steam was gradually disappearing, I became fascinated by Railway Signalling and the Signal Boxes which, at that time, were plentiful. Over the years I have been fortunate enough to collect a number of Signal Box Train Registers. I think some of these are of historical interest and so I have set up this Flickr account to preserve them for posterity, rather than just retaining the collection at home. To make them into digital images I have to scan each page twice and then stitch the two jpegs together. To make the viewing more than like the actual Train Register I then produce, for each page, an image of both the Up and Down line records. Obviously this is work in progress but hopefully, there will be some interest in this.

I have started with a Train Register from Annesley No.4 box which was in Annesley Yard on the former Great Central north of Nottingham. It covers 30 days in August/September 1962. The box controlled the entry and exit routes for Annesley Motive Power Depot. For a lot of the Train Register entries the loco number has been recorded. Although the practice of recording loco numbers used to be carried out by Signalmen (going back in time there was a dedicated column for the Loco Number) the need for that had generally diminished, being replaced by recording the Train Reporting number. I can see, though, that for a box like Annesley No.4 the loco numbers were needed to understand and identify where all the various light engine movements were to go. The Albums relevant to Annesley No.4 box are all prefixed with 1. Further Train Register extracts will feature in Albums nos. 2, 3 etc. However, I don't anticipate posting any more complete Train Registers as the Annesley No. 4 one is the only book which contains loco numbers. Instead I shall look to extracting pages which are of general interest.

I realise that the subject is not everyone's cup of tea but, hopefully, you'll appreciate the historical value of what is being set out.To develop this project there's been two people giving me inspiration, support and encouragement. So many thanks Tony Saville and Mister C (as he's known on Flickr, Joined Dec 2009).
