Capturing a place at a moment in time, a moment in the lives and people and the natural world. That is a big part of it, though sometimes its going out with a camera and looking for something unusual amongst the ordinary. A low perspective, a high view point and generally abstracting the normal. Somehow, I am whole when I hold a camera. There are plenty of cameras to hold. Images are captured on a varied equipment and I felt the inescapable urge to return to my film roots. Digital still dominates, but 120 roll, 35mm and 5x4 have all become a part of the mix. An affectionate bond has grown with cameras from the 50s, 60s and 70s. Little Kodak Retinettes, a twin lens reflex and a large format Toyo have helped slow down the processes. Thinking things through on medium and large format isn't an option, it is essential. Digital or analogue, for me, its all part of a wonderful love affair.
