I am a retired Chartered Surveyor living in Edinburgh and I used to work in the Railway and Airline property sectors. Growing up in Hall Green in Birmingham our garden looked onto the North Warwickshire line so I was treated to a daily diet of green Derby Suburban (later Class 116) DMUs heading between Snow Hill and Stratford upon Avon. Inevitably I became a railway enthusiast at an early age and after moving to Scotland when I was ten I started capturing the diesel and electric scene intensively throughout the UK between 1970 and 1984. Around 4,000 of my photographs are displayed here, the good, the bad and a few somewhat downright ugly but included if rare or relevant. Not always the best quality as I mainly used Agfa 200 ASA colour film which hasn't stood the test of time and my Ilford B&W negatives have degraded, some quite badly, but hopefully the content will however make up for that. After a 20 year gap between 1985 and 2005 I started taking railway photos again in the digital era but they are mostly of preserved locos and heritage lines. Apart from one Album of working steam locos at NCB Polkemmet Colliery in 1979 you won't find yourself in hot water on my site! I decided that I would scan all my railway photos and started the project during Covid-19 lockdown in May 2020 and it has taken me four months to the end of September to complete.
