Covid-19 Narrative:
On March 17, I received an email from the corporate office of the movie theatre that I was working for. The email informed that all theatres were to be shut down and every employee was going to be laid off. I was shocked when I heard the news because I could have never imagined the pandemic to reach the point where it would directly affect me personally. At that point, my school had already been pushed online but I thought that it would stop about there. Without work or school, there was no reason for me to leave the house. Soon after the theatre closure was the shelter in place order from the state governor. I have always been an introvert at heart but after spending numerous weeks stuck inside it feels like this house has turned more into a prison. After aspect of my life and everyone’s lives feels like it has been put on hold. There are no sporting events, no movie releases, no family events, and nothing to look forward too. Everyday is just wake up, eat breakfast, do schoolwork, lunch, more schoolwork, dinner, bed, and then repeat. Days turn into weeks with no clear end to this pandemic. I know that I am doing my part by staying indoors but sometimes it feels like I am slowly going crazy. I had done some research about the Spanish Flu because I was curious at how the people back then handled the disease compared to now and I learned that we are not so different. We both practiced social distancing measures and light versions of the shelter-in-place order. As bleak as I seemed back in the day with the high death rate I found some hope in it because I realized that with the Spanish Flu just like the other great pandemics in human history, they all came to an end. Eventually the businesses will re-open and people will be able to go back to their lives. Things may not be the same after this is all done but it is comforting to me that this pandemic will eventually end.
