I'd heard so many horrible things about micro four thirds, I scoffed under my breath every time the subject came up. Then I saw the photos someone was taking with an old E-M10 and Russian lenses, and I found one for really cheap on ebay. I gave it a shot. I was hooked. I looked into it more, and found that the bird photos people were getting with their Olympus setups were far superior to my Nikon d7200 results. I returned the E-M10 and traded up for a used Olympus E-M1 Mark ii. I pinched my pennies and bought a new M.Zuiko 75-300mm ii to go with it. The results I'm getting with this approximately $1000 setup blows my Nikon results clean out of the water. Sure, the few really good Nikon results are sharper, have more detail, and have better color, but I could count those really good results from a year with my d7200 on two hands. I get fantastic results from the E-M1 Mark ii nearly every time I go out shooting. Plus, it works great with all the old Russian manual focus lenses. Focus Peaking and magnification make manual focus work really well. I also find the expanded depth of field to be a huge plus in bird photography. How may beautiful bird photos have I seen where the eye is in perfect focus, but 1/2 the bird is blurred from the shallow bokeh? I guess I'm in a minority. Am I missing something.
Will I ever get a Nikon mirrorless camera? Maybe But right now, I'm having so much fun with the Olympus, that I don't see it in the near future.
