I have always had a curiosity with make-up. I was captivated by the magical looks created on TV. Asking for makeup for Christmas every year, I would have never imagined that I would be working on clients every day. It is my dream to study this course for many reasons: Being able to do something small that makes a client feel so confident. Being able to pick up a brush and experiment with textures, colours, formulas and techniques. Seeing my before and after and how powerful it is to transform the face, hair, or body. This is an art and there is no box or rules to limit what I can think of or create. I am an extremely determined and ambitious, I always aim to produce looks that I am proud of and make my client feel amazing. The way I think is very unique and my creations and style are distinguished as my own. I have the willingness to gain more knowledge and skill. This makes me stand out above others, as I will give everything a shot.

I know there are both practical and scientific aspects, such as body art, which I love, and then at the other end of the spectrum there is the Anatomy and Physiology side which I find fascinating. I know you have to have a lot of confidence in your own work and the ability to adapt in certain circumstances, such as when on location, changing your work to suit a director, which I have done this month by working on 3 primary characters in a pantomime. I pride myself in being self-assured and sticking to my ideas, but being able to take criticism and opinions, as well as adapting to my client's preferences, location and time schedule. I always go above and beyond with the total looks I produce. Recently, for my Level 3 catwalk assessment, after hours of research I decided on a look I loved and created it exactly how I envisioned down to the last detail, from the hair accessories to the nails. I produce looks that exceed both mine and my client's expectations. I am a very friendly and helpful person, which is important in a course where you are constantly interacting with people. I absolutely love meeting new people and styling new faces, whether it be for a wedding or Halloween.

From when I left school, there was no doubt in my mind that this is what I wanted to study. I applied, attended the open days and began building a kit. I always ask questions, do extra work and put hours of effort into all of my exams, purely due to how much I enjoy it. I have gained several certificates, including Airbase, Illamasqua and Kyrolan workshops and competitions. One of my favourite opportunities I had was going to UK Skills. This 5-day trip gave me insight into the industry and how to progress. It was early mornings and late nights. The day comprised of us demonstrating skills, styling the public and answering questions of hopeful students. I had the chance to watch the national competition, which made me reflect and realise that I wanted this to be my future. I feel as though I have an insight into the retail side of the beauty industry as I have been working for Doll Beauty for a year. I know how to find the perfect product for customers and what makes good merchandise. Both my college and job are dedicated to this industry, yet I still spend my spare time refining my skills, for example with my airbrush and body paints, following other beauty specialists such as Kyrolan and Instagram MUAs, exploring the newest beauty products, and reading up on both historical and the latest techniques used, for example how camouflage makeup was founded and why.

At university, I look forward to gaining more knowledge about industry and reflecting it into my own work, as well as refining my specialist skills such as TV and film and catwalk. I am eager to learn as much as I can as well as enjoy myself, which is why this course is perfect for me. In the past year I have seen myself grow and excel in ways I didn't know were possible and I feel that going to university will only make me grow ten times over.
