CHARO OQUET, is Miami-based interdisciplinary artist, curator and cultural producer concerned with counter-hegemonic and new narratives and historical context being addressed today that recognize the inclusion of suppressed histories, communities, and identities. She creates poetic and political pieces in media spanning painting, video, installation, drawing, collage, performance and photography. Her work has been extensively exhibited internationally and reviewed and is included in many books and catalogs. Oquet has had numerous solo exhibitions in Museums in galleries around the world. Her work is in many museum collections in the US and abroad. She is the recipient of several awards and fellowships most recently: MAP Fund ‘15, South Florida Cultural Consortium Visual and Media Artists Fellowship 15 & 05, Miami Light Project Here & Now commission; National Performance Network Artists Residency award; the Grand Prize in the Dominican Biennial, Museum of Modern Art of Santo Domingo ‘11; Florida State Artists Fellowship Award ‘06; South Florida Cultural Consortium Visual and Media Artists Fellowship, and the QE II Arts Council of N.Z. Artist Fellowship Award. She received a BFA from Florida International University.
