Connor Cadigan and Second Life 'Photography': Second Life has different meanings to different participants. For some, it's simply an extension of the real world, a sort of social media with a video game aesthetic. For others, it's an escape from the real world, a place to explore fictional characters and places, even roleplay as someone else.

With my real-world love of art, photography, and storytelling, I use the photography aspect of Second Life to make stories, snapshots in time. These snapshots may sometimes represent an event that's happened in Second Life, like a festival or party that I attended; however, the vast majority of my pictures are carefully staged and crafted ideas of fictional moments.

To that end, thank you to all my friends, new and old, who have shared their time with me to make these snippets of stories in pictures over the years!

A note about my use of Photoshop: I'm aware many in the SL photography community (and indeed in the RL photography community) consider the use of Photoshop for image editing to be a cheat or hack to compensate for poor photography skills. I use it because I enjoy using it - it's a daily thing in my rl career, and I love what can be added to a scene to make it really pop. SL photography often relies heavily on the graphics capability of the viewer application you're using. Photoshop and other editing tools can compensate for that and much more. So, while I understand the criticism for not displaying "raw" sl imagery, I remain an unabashedly proud Photoshop user. 😋📷
