Fons Bitter is een Non-Professional Fotomaker, soms ook wel amateur wordt genoemd. Een amateur ( uit het Frans; “liefhebber” ) is iemand die een bepaalde vaardigheid op niet-professionele basis uitoefent. De term ‘Amateurs’ wordt veelvuldig gehanteerd in de fotografie en daar zit tevens de kracht van het woord; ‘AMATEUR’= een gepassioneerde liefhebber. Ik laat mij als ‘amateur’ en plaatjesmaker mede inspireren door het werk van anderen die 'anders kijken naar hetzelfde', ongeacht of het professionals of non-professionals zijn. Zelf heb ik geen bepaalde voorkeur voor foto onderwerpen. Alles wat fascinerend en fotowaardig is heeft mijn oprechte aandacht. Mijn camera's en lenzen zijn nimmer kieskeurig voor de door mij gekozen onderwerpen, ze accepteren loyaal en zonder enige weerbarstigheid de beelden te registeren die ik hen opdraag. Nabewerking van de beelden zijn daarbij echter van evident belang.

Ik geloof niet in fotomakers die overtuigt zijn dat foto’s voor de volle 100% geheel voltooid zo uit de camera rollen. "Ook het beste rauwe deeg verdient een voortreffelijke en vakkundige bakker met moderne oven voor een voortreffelijk smakend en mooi afgebakken brood".

De kunst van het hedendaags digitaal fotograferen met de overvloed aan plaatjes is het de niet de kunst om een foto te kunnen maken maar het is de kunst van het selecteren geworden. De kunst om de juiste beelden te kunnen kiezen met een bepaalde samenhang met een eigen en eigen en herkenbare stijl.

Aan dure en scherpe lenzen zonder scherpe artistieke ideeën kom je ook niet ver…

Fons Bitter is a Non-Professional Photo Maker, sometimes referred to as an amateur. An amateur (from French; "enthusiast") is someone who exercises a certain skill on a non-professional basis. The term "Amateurs" is used extensively in photography and there is also the power of that word; ‘AMATEUR’ = a passionate enthusiast. As an ‘amateur’ and image maker, I am also inspired by the work of others who look "differently at the same thing," regardless of whether they are professionals or non-professionals. I have no particular preference for photo subjects. Everything that is fascinating and photo worthy has my sincere attention. My cameras and lenses are never choosy about the subjects I have chosen, they accept loyally and without any obstinacy to register the images that I order to them. However, post-processing of the images is of obvious and great importance. I do not believe in photo makers who are convinced that their photos completely roll out of the camera for 100% complete completion. "Even the best raw dough deserves an excellent and professional baker with a modern oven for an excellent tasting and beautifully baked bread".

The art of contemporary digital photography with the abundance of images, it is not the art to be able to take an image, but it has become the art of selection of the photograph. It is the art of being able to select the right images with certain coherence and recognizable style out of a thousand takes.

You won't get far with expensive and sharp lenses without sharp and artistic ideas ...
