Beverly Dyer
Drag to set position!
This is a celebration of the life and times of Beverly Dyer. Beverly passed away on the 22nd June, 2019, after a lengthy struggle with disease. She was a many-time survivor of cancer, having negotiated her way through non-Hodgkins lymphoma, breast cancer, bone cancer, lung cancer, and brain cancer. She was a heroic fighter against all of these terrible afflictions, and never let her spirits flag.
The photos you see here are from a collection that I have made of her since 2002. A few of these, notably the very early ones, were made by others (and I will fill in credits as I curate this collection). There are a few videos too, including some made of falling snow while her piano playing fills the air.
I love Beverly so much and miss her every day. Time may cause some of that to fade, but it will never be gone, and she will always be a part of me. She brought me out of some darkness and restored my life to light and hope. We never had cross words with each other, we never fought, we never strayed. In our unmarried years together, she was always my sole partner. My goal was to always make her laugh at least once a day, and on those days I missed, I made up for it the following day.
As her life was fading, one of her relatives wrote the following that still resonates with me: "And now here you are...what do you think happens next? Is there any boundary? Or are there no boundaries left for you?" Bev had a very deft way of managing boundaries: observing them, testing them as needed, moving them on occasion. I was very fortunate to be on the inside of that.
Her life has faded but her spirit has not. Today, 17 years after I met her, I would do it all over again. Knowing what I know today, that her mobility was limited in the last couple of years, and that she would not live to see 2020, I would still do it again. She was worth that much to me.
Thank you for stopping by. Her husband and life partner forever,
Jeff
