Surreal passion, wonderful trip throughout images... Thank you
Laura has an exquisite eye for the subtle and the sublime, as well as the artistic talent to capture these visions in such a fascinating way. Following her work is a joy.
Plan on a sustained time of quietness, and solitude, and pick one of her sets, such as "In the Cove," forget any preconceptions you may have about the technical side of photography, and give yourself to the way she sees, shows, and tells it, and you will find balm for your soul. Plan on a sustained time of quietness, and solitude, and pick one of her sets, such as "In the Cove," forget any preconceptions you may have about the technical side of photography, and give yourself to the way she sees, shows, and tells it, and you will find balm for your soul. As I sat with her set, "In the Cove," I found myself thinking as follows: There is a sensitive, poetic imagination pervading this set, as well as an unusual way to use the camera, that is gentle, lovely, and matter for contemplation on a Sunday afternoon, in a time of quiet solitude. In the words of British theologian, Jeremy Begbie, I find this series "Voicing Creation's Praise" - doing so quietly, as a form of meditation, and I think many of the Christian mystics would say, Amen! - Maybe others too! Why would they not! Discovering that she is also a teacher, I thought, what fortunate children, or teenagers, to spend time in the presence of such a sensitive, imaginative, and tender-hearted woman - her presence must be balm to their souls, for it radiates through nearly all her photographic work. A wonderful discovery, to be returned to again, another quiet Sunday afternoon. Thank you, Laura Sorrells for imagining, making, and sharing such a trove of goodness with a blind, dull, and hurting world.

Revisiting Laura's photostream and then going to her wonderful web site made my day. Gifted with eyes that let us see her world through the lens and words that transform thoughts into indelible images...I'm glad to know that Laura is a teacher. I remember a special teacher I had...Mrs. Davila. She was my art teacher in high school. In my class was a shy, tall girl named Anna Lou Leibovitz. Anna and I were both strongly influenced by Mrs. Davila. Anna changed her name to Annie Leibovitz and became a world famous photographer. I hope some day some of Laura's students look back and say one of their greatest influences was their eighth grade English teacher.
