Martin McGartland was shot and almost killed by the IRA in June 1999. Within minutes of the shooting, and while he was fighting for his life, Northumbria Police, its special branch (acting under the orders of Home Office, British Government and MI5) began a very damaging smear campaign against him. Northumbria Police (NP), its officers / press office began briefing media that the shooting had noting at all to do with PIRA, that it was a local dispute between drugs gangs and that Martin was a member of one of the gangs...

This was being done within 1 hour of the shooting. And Northumbria Police were passing those damaging, malicious smears the press 'off the record' (meaning that it would not be linked back to NP) . Northumbria Police were also telling the press 'On the record' that it was too early to say who was involved ... that they were 'keeping an open mind'.

During the past 20 years Northumbria Police, Winton Keenen, team Winton and other corrupt officers continue to cover up the smearing of Martin McGartland. They are refusing to investigate the matter, all of the conclusive evidence that proves that NP were behind the smear campaign. And Winton Keenen, Northumbria Police are also refusing to publicly apologise to Martin / for the damaged caused.

To this day, almost 20 years later, Winton Keenen, Northumbria Police, Team Winton (including PSD and special branch) continue to cover up the smearing of Martin....
