Photography for Ian has been a tool of trade... and a means of creative expression.
As a teacher of geography in Australian and British schools he was able to bring colour and reality into the classroom and provide reliable resources for his and others' students.
As an author, it has been fulfilling to be able to publish many of his images in social history books, geography texts, geomorphology textbooks and environmental resource kits.
As peacebuilders, and as educators of those seeking to transform conflicts, end wars and rebuild devastated lives and societies, the camera was needed to record the awful situations in the field, and to remember the specific people with whom we were dealing. Without a camera, memory becomes unreliable and reflection and designing of initiatives is imperilled.
As pastors, portraiture guided our intercessory prayer life.
As an ecologist Ian has the pleasure of identifying species, recording landscape qualities, and advocating for expansion of protected areas whilst providing images for advocacy, promotion, interpretation and education.
Photography is a remarkable technology that can be used to enrich lives, challenge perspectives, recover the past, express creativity and enable us in the building of just-peace around the globe.
