Been interested in industrial railways from age of 9 - lived near a colliery line in Wigan. Enthusiasm was doubled after a gang of us visited Penrhyn and Dinorwic at age 13. The same gang are still mates 47 years later! Married with grown-up daughter.
Always preferred industrial railways to preserved ones and got hooked on Bord na Mona's narrow gauge more recently - together with Ireland, its great people, quiet roads and big skies. Lucky to have a wife who enjoys riding peat trains and visiting briquette factories!
Three of us recently built a 2ft gauge 0-4-0VB 'Paddy' which is currently on the Amerton Railway.
Wife and I run a small foundry which (of course) has a 2ft gauge railway. A Lister is works shunter but there are two steam locos tucked inside......
Currently researching Lancashire for the Industrial Rly Soc and writing a book (with Kevin Payne and Andrew Waldron) on Bord na Mona railways - Oakwood will publish next year.
