I've had an interest in aviation since late 1959 although there have been a couple of gaps between then and now. Unfortunately, I don't have any photos from those early days. My spotting days started at Southend (SEN), Essex and in the following 3>4 years I made infrequent visits to LHR and also to Stapleford Tawney - which was quite a long way on a push bike! I did usually get to Stapleford by train and bus, however.
I moved to Melbourne, Australia in 1984 and Melbourne - Tullamarine (MEL) is my nearest major airport albeit some 60kms from where I live. I also visit Melbourne - Essendon (MEB) being only a few kilometres from MEL and I go to Melbourne - Moorabbin (MBW) a few times each year. There are two local airstrips near home Lilydale (YLIL) and Coldstream (YCEM) but both are fairly quiet . However, with wine festivals in the Yarra Valley where both are located, visitors are sometimes attracted.
Prior to Covid, I visited the Philippines, Hong Kong and Singapore 2>3 times each year. I have also visited Bangkok, Phuket, Saigon, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Surabaya, Guangzhou, Frankfurt, Denpasar (Bali) and LHR in the last 5>6 years although photography wasn't possible at some airports. Due to medical problems, I missed out on a trip to Japan in early 2020 and hope to manage that at some point - whenever that may be.
My main aviation interests are airliners, bizjets/props, freighters (civil and military), tankers, firefighters, GA and most warbirds. I have little or no interest in modern fighters or bombers, small helicopters, hot air balloons, gliders, home builds or recreational aircraft.
My previous Flickr aviation photostream is at: www.flickr.com/photos/154446353@N02/, I can no longer add to it as it is a free account but feel free to take a look.
I do not expect any of my followers to comment on, or 'fave' every photograph I post, some I post may not appeal, but I do expect some reciprocation from time to time. I am more likely to follow you if you show a registration and a location of the aircraft you have photographed. I view the photos posted to the group on an almost daily basis and usually 'fave' at least one photo posted by someone I follow (I follow practically everybody who follows me, but see below). Some follower's 'fave' my postings on a regular basis but there are others who have made no comment or 'faved' anything I have posted for quite some time which is disappointing so it's unlikely that I will continue to follow those people. If you feel that you do not wish to continue following me, then by all means, 'unfollow' as I do not wish to be just one of a number that you choose to follow and not reciprocate with. Further to the previous sentence, if anyone has thousands (or many hundreds) of followers, it is unlikely that I will follow them as it is improbable that they will be able to regularly monitor the postings of all of whom they follow and reciprocate.
For my non-aviation photographs (mainly landscapes) you might like to view more than 5,000 photographs at: www.flickr.com/photos/76567977@N04/
Thank you if you have read this far and I hope you will find interest in what I have posted - I'll endeavour to answer any queries you may have.
