Geogblog2 replaces Geogblog which began on Flickr in 2003-4. At some point Flickr decided to update my account and when I tried to log in, told me that my e-mail address (which I still have) was invalid. I would have to ask myself for permission to use my own account. It was easier to start all over again with a new e-mail address, so here goes.
I have extensive photo archives, but I will try to run this flog out of material taken in the present. I do some stills, but I am much more interested in video. All stills are straight-out-of-camera. I shoot RAW but usually can't be bothered to edit. Video is the real goal. I have no use for professional video gear. It is bulky, expensive and awkward to lug around. Mainly I shoot with a Sony A6300 but I also use a Sony RX100 version VI. These gives me sharp 4K and decent sound. They seem the right combination of visual quality, audio quality and portability. The RX100 spends its life in a pouch on my belt and is always on hand.
I am a geographer, retired from teaching at a university. Using a camera to investigate vernacular reality is more important to me than aesthetics. I enjoy a little beauty, but truth is a more important goal.
