I'm amateur photographer and photo enthusiast since my younger days. After having used various 35mm film cameras of different brands (Canon, Contax), I shifted to digital photography when DSLRs had become affordable. In 2017 an ebay offer of a Canon FTb 35mm camera revived my interest in film photography. This fully mechanical camera once had been my first camera and later was sold for purchasing a newer model. Shortly after I came across a medium format folding camera (Foinix) which had been produced in the fifties in my hometown Trier.
This camera was the starting point for examining the potential of vintage medium format film cameras (Agfa and Zeiss Ikon folders) in combination with modern 120 format roll film emulsions and the possibilities of current digital editing tools. The results of this kind of hybrid photography convinced me that film photography still is a most interesting alternative to classical digital photography. I like film grain, enjoy the haptics of great craftsmanship and the procedure of carefully adjusting and controlling the decisive photographic parameters.
Occasionally, I still use compact cameras: the Sony RX100, the Sigma DP2 Merrill, and also my Galaxy 7 smartphone. I like to discover and capture interesting compositions in my direct surroundings (particularly around the Hunsrück nature reserve and in my hometown Trier). I enjoy photography "as one might enjoy great music, a fine wine or a good book: reflectively, uncompetitively, as a fulfilment of something not easy to define" (Ivor Matanle: Collecting and Using Classic Cameras, Thames & Hudson, 2000).

Eine faszinierende Sammlung von Fotografien, die sich durch eine wohl überlegte Bildgestaltung, bis hin zur perfekt und natürlich anmutenden Ausarbeitung, auszeichnet. Die Begeisterung des Fotografen für die Fotografie ist spürbar und drückt sich besonders intensiv in seinen SW-Arbeiten auf Film aus, welche für mich die pure Passion verkörpern und eine wahre Freude beim Anschauen sind. Wenn man bedenkt, dass die meisten Arbeiten im regionalen Umfeld entstanden sind, ist dies in meinen Augen besonders bemerkenswert und spricht für das besondere, gestalterische Gespür, großartige Fotografien auch aus dem Alltäglichen entstehen zu lassen.
