It takes LOVE to make some images. I HAVE seen more infatuating, mind-boggling, jaw-dropping, impressive, professional, artistic or creative photostreams here. Nor is it a most consistently built portfolio Tommaso's. But this is the first ever testimony I write on Flickr. Why? I knew after glimpsing first few images already that I will browse his full portfolio. My later visit, up and down to the very last of his images posted, just confirmed that. Not often on Flickr a photographer comes across another photographer that feels so congenial - yes I know it's highly individual, even a matter of taste. But it IS special when you see that somebody so different to you in age, origin, upbringing and course of life, yet exhibits very similar visual or cultural affection. Or the same approach in "freezing" the life around him. With Tommaso I had this feeling within seconds. So the first thing to praize with him is his choice of moments to be photographed and the combination of the elements in the picture. The composition is unobtrusive and cultivated. Spot-on exposure, masterly, on most of his images. One of Tommaso's real trade marks! You'll never see extremes - heavy dark sections with little detail, or obtrusive overexposed areas, or unbalanced areas. His choice of contrast and color is profound and reminiscent of the style of LIFE magazine. Proper focussing too. He leaves that bokeh rage behind him. He is not affraid to stop down and achieves splendid results. Then he has a very subdued, civilized use of water mark in his more recent pictures. Tommaso's collection should really be watched Full Screen on a large monitor if possible, than a special quality pops up. Do it for the sake of both composition, subject and technical merits. One things is obvious: Tommaso has presented us with images from the very different places of the world, which all, from NYC to Moscow, From London to Portugal, exhibit his recognizible, personal style and taste. Consisting of: colors, composition, light, controlled dynamics, putting the main subject in a clear visually expressive relationship with the background, eye for the detail in a personalized way... Most impressive to me personally is his Russian album. Also the even, neat, professional quality of his images he achieves by using a relatively inexpensive, consumer-grade camera (but it IS a Canon!) -Sometimes I do suspect a bit excessive use of a polarizing filter but nothing critical there. Of course, there is much room for development, just like with everybody. Yet... now already, Tommaso's output I do highly recommend! And just don't forget - hit that shortcut "L" when you're browsing it. As per 15 February 2020... Tommaso still my favorite cityscape photographer! His newcomer posts are fresh, original and veery powerful! Don't miss the full screen.
