TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages. Meanwhile, independently run TEDx events help share ideas in communities around the world
In the spirit of TED's mission, "ideas worth spreading", TEDx is a program of local, independent events that brings people together to share a TEDx experience. In a TEDx event, speakers aim to connect and empower the audience through discussion. These local independent events bear the name TEDx, where x represents the independent nature of the organization of the event.
The TEDxAUTH 2018 team, founded in November 2017, the purpose of which is to implement the first TEDx event in the history of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
