I grew up in the New York suburbs, but then lived some 25 years in Manhattan; about 1995 I relocated to Torino, Italy. Besides being involved in photography practically all my life, I have worked quite a lot in painting and printmaking, and studied an eclectic range of topics in art history. My photographic work has been predominantly in still life, usually of found objects arranged in boxes, trays, shelves, or other such container. For many years I worked in the studio with the view camera, and more recently with digital cameras, using laborious methods that give me very high definition and unsurpassable depth of focus as well. Either way, the object has been to produce images of considerable precision, which for me is crucial to the esthetic that guides me here. I hope the images will evoke in the viewer some of the feelings I experience in the presence of these arrangements, or, for that matter, of many things in daily life.
