Marla Keown picked up her first Digital SLR after returning home from a tour in Iraq in 2004 as a truck driver in the Army Reserves. Marla’s time overseas truly opened her eyes to the world and she’s been sharing those views ever since. Marla officially became a photojournalist for the Army Reserves in 2008 where she traveled around the globe capturing the lives and moments of those around her. From Romania to Hawaii and Alaska, Marla spent her travels studying the art of photojournalism and constantly improving her skill set.
Marla’s time as a photojournalist for the Army transformed in April of 2012 when she accepted a position with the Aurora Sentinel and The Aurora Magazine as the primary photojournalist and photo editor. For almost three years, Marla spent her time covering hard-hitting stories like the Aurora Theater Shooting to heartfelt issues of homelessness as well as serving the city by sharing the stories of the local community. After growing as a photojournalist for close to ten years, Marla has focused her attention outside of the newsroom and is bringing that photojournalistic eye to the everyday photograph.
From food to family photography, weddings and boudoir – Marla Keown’s eye brings a new perspective to the images you’ll be showing off to family and friends along the walls in your home and in the albums on your coffee tables.
