Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger is proud to represent Virginia's 7th Congressional District, which contains all or portions of Orange, Culpeper, Spotsylvania, Greene County, Madison County, Fredericksburg, Caroline County, King George County, Stafford County, Prince William County, and Albemarle County.
A former federal law enforcement official and Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Operations Officer, Rep. Spanberger has pursued a career in public service focused on keeping American families safe from a wide range of federal crimes and national security threats. Rep. Spanberger first served with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, where as a federal agent she enforced federal laws and investigated narcotics and money laundering cases. During her time in the CIA, she lived abroad collecting intelligence, managing assets, and overseeing programs to protect the lives of American citizens both at home and abroad. In 2014, Rep. Spanberger moved to the private sector and began working at EAB - Royall, where she helped colleges and universities diversify their student bodies, make higher education more affordable, and increase graduation rates.
In Congress, Rep. Spanberger's top priorities include making healthcare and prescription drugs affordable for all Americans, addressing the undue influence of dark money in elections, and bringing reliable broadband internet access to the rural areas of her district. Rep. Spanberger is also fighting to increase support for public education, protect Social Security and Medicare from devastating cuts, reform the U.S. criminal justice system, and reaffirm the importance of strong diplomatic and defense relationships between the United States and its allies.
Rep. Spanberger grew up in Short Pump, Virginia, in Henrico County, where she graduated from J.R. Tucker High School and its Spanish Language immersion program. After receiving her undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia, Rep. Spanberger earned her Masters in Business Administration through a dual-degree program between the GISMA Business School in Hannover, Germany and Purdue University. Rep. Spanberger previously served in the U.S. Senate Page Program for former U.S. Senator Chuck Robb (D-VA).
Rep. Spanberger resides in Glen Allen, Henrico County, Virginia with her husband, Adam, and their three children.
