Munich-Riem Aviation Photos
Drag to set position!
This page is dedicated to aviation at Munich's old Riem airport (München-Riem) that was closed on 16 May 1992. It contains pictures I have taken myself during my spotting days there in the late 1970's/early 1980's as well as many photos kindly provided by friends and fellow spotters. Sadly, some of them are no longer with us today.
In particular, this page is dedicated to the memory of Munich ramp spotter Mr. Norbert Kröpfl.
I’m glad to have known him, and I’m very happy to be able to present a small fraction of his work here.
Three of the images on this page show Norbert in photographic action:

Many thanks go to Stephan Barth, Michael Bernhard, Ramin Fischer, Klaus Held, Wilhelm Hell, Manfred Kaffine, Theodor Kastner, Albert Kuhbandner, Michael Riedl, Michael Röser, Herwart Schneider, Florian Weiß, Reimar Wendt and Christofer Witt, who have kindly and very generously contributed rare and previously unpublished photographs to this page, and to Karsten Madrian as the source of many of the fine bizjet photographs.
Friends and fellow spotters from whom I’ve received slides in the old days include Andreas Flickinger, the late Andreas Müller and Christofer Witt - thanks again after all this time.
Klaus Held also kindly provided photos taken by photographers active at Riem from the late 1950s to the late 1960s including Helmut Ginter, Fred Gütschow, Hans Reiner Otto, Michael Riedesser, Peter Michael Richter, Gerd Killian, Peter Miche and Klaus Mohr. Jürgen Lang was another photographer active at Riem in the 1960s, and I'm glad that I have received some of his photos from Wilhelm Hell.
Florian Weiß kindly allowed me to scan slides from the collections of the late photographers Andreas Rink, Günter Rötzer and Robert Samweber.
Since I’ve started this page in January 2019, I have received kind support in the form of scans, information and/or favourable feedback from Firuz Altingoz, Armin Pitscheider and Frank Pötsch, for which I’m very grateful.
For some photos, I couldn’t find out the true originator and only listed the collection their work was taken from (as seems to be the convention in aviation photography circles) - many thanks to all of you as well, I’ll be happy to credit you if you find a photo of yours on this page! I know that Karl Zeller provided other Riem spotters with photos he took on the Riem ramp.
Comments are very welcome.
