And so as I commute between places, I make a conscious effort to slow down. It doesn't come naturally. I have been programmed to walk briskly, to have the next destination and the next thing to do on my mind. But I force myself and stroll across coffee shops and parks, trying to just enjoy being somewhere instead of rushing from place to place. And for the first time in a long time, I hear the sound of laughter, smell the fresh green scent of a just mowed lawn and notice the beauty around me. I breathe a little deeper, smile a little wider and feel a lot more alive.
