My interest in photography began in the mid 70s in the film era. It was always expensive to shoot then so my capturing was limited. I worked in photofinishing for a number of years so I was always involved in it to certain degree, but because of cost, while raising a family image capture was pretty much reserved for family photos. When digital imaging began I was unimpressed with the original quality but after a few years it got better and cheaper. Finally in 2003 I bought a Canon powershot A60 as it had a manual mode. Having been brought up on manual, I always found it easier than trying to decipher what the camera would do and then have to overide it. That little camera renewed my interest and I started shooting anything and everything. A few years later I sprung for a DSLR, the Canon xti. Finding that lenses were not cheap, I looked for old manual focus nikkors and to this day still enjoy using them now and then.

I still like to shoot many different things, but birds, or anything natural, skys, abstracts and landscapes are likely my favorites.

I live in a small town northeast of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, so although I have no oceans or mountains within a short drive, I am fortunate to have 4 distinct seasons that change not only the landscape but the angle of light.

Recently retired, my vision is not great (blind in one eye, and the other is just giving a hint at macular degeneration in my good eye...unfortunately there is no cure), so now that I have the time, I want to make the best of it. Since joining Flikr, a world of inspiration has opened up to me with so many friendly talented people here. If you follow me, be aware that I will likely be uploading many different things and although I enjoy being a jack of all trades, I am really a master of none, as it is all for fun.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read a bit about me, and when you view my photos keep in mind that I sincerely appreciate comments whether positive or negative and always invite criticism as how in your opinion I could have done better, or done things differently, as I am sure that I can learn a bit from everyone.
