Hello my dear International friends,

I'm Eric, an American commercial photography pro (advertising) of many years. I am of French ancestry, and studied originally under my late grandfather, a top USA nationally renowned master landscape and portraiture professional. Then I was on university, and finally on to doing commercial photography for advertising agencies at all media levels for a lot of years. I also worked in upper level corporate marketing as well as high technology spheres of business.

I am also a devote evangelical Christian, work helping various missionary groups in Eastern Europe, and speak five languages, not all fluently, but most; English (native, of course), Spanish (fluent) , Russian (fluent), French (basic), Ukrainian (basic).

I am working in Eastern Europe now, out of commercial work, sold all the old film/analog equipment, and trying to follow my grandfather's footsteps into primarily landscape work using digital techniques and equipment (with some floral and portraiture thrown in for balance), living in Kyiv, Ukraine..as my working site reflects... Flickr is a great, low cost hosting site, by the way...

For me then, photography is more than a hobby, but I always look at it that way so my work can be more casual and natural, not so strictly "posed" as it used to be...(although I still catch myself doing it sometimes for modeling type shots..LOL. old habits, you know?)

Now, I much prefer the "snapshot" approach, as "unprofessional" as that sounds. It's a lot more fun and not really work...(although the "shooting ratios" went out the window) I believe the correct quote is: "Do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life" I am exceptionally blessed to be able to get paid to do what I love.

Note to all Ukrainian visitors to my website:

Please understand I am an American professional photographer who now lives and works in Kyiv, attempting to capture and present Ukrainian locations and items I believe are of historical significance and artistic interest to people globally. I am NOT a Ukrainian historical expert, nor do I make any claims to be. :-)

Any information provided anywhere on my site regarding my photography of Ukrainian subjects, et al, has been given to me by native Ukrainian sources and therefore subject to their accuracy, or inaccuracy as the case may be, controversial political influences not withstanding, and I assume no responsibility for them.

My main concern is capturing and presenting artistic photographic values, many of which are soon to be featured exclusively on websites for Ukraine and Kyiv. Historical comments are strictly to help non-Ukrainians understand why the subjects may be of interest. Thanks...

if you are a visitor to my site, and you find my work inspirational, or interesting for any number of subjective reasons...please write a testimonial here for me. I respect your opinions about my work,...its a professional "thing," you know?

I look forward to your honest estimations, as it is called.

Respectfully yours,

Eric R. Gilliatt, Sr. A.A. (Fine Arts - Photography), B. B. A.; MBA/TM.
