Hobbyist photographer. Interested in most all genres.
I started with a DSLR in 2017. The interest was there from middle school when I thought I was a pro with a Kodak Disk camera. School, jobs, family, coaching Little League, etc. took a higher priority for time and money for many years. What finally pushed me back into the hobby was wanting to bring back images from vacations. I had hero landscape images in mind. Then I learned how much time, effort, and luck (i.e. weather) it takes to get one hero shot. If I took two vacations a year, it would take forever to accumulate a portfolio of those shots. So I really expanded my subject interest to include a lot of “local” travel.
I’ve spent lots of time reading, watching videos, listening to podcasts, going photography club meetings, etc. in an effort to improve. The technical and textbook come more easily to me than the practice and artistic. I continue to work on both. I first joined Flickr to show photos to people I know. I liked that my images were not compressed. It has only really been since late in 2019 that I have been more active with following, faving, and interacting in general. If you are really interested in an online photography community, I think this is the best place to be. There is real potential to have meaningful interaction about a pursuit we all love. That is what I want out of Flickr going forward. There are certainly many, many great photographers on here I can learn from or just appreciate their work. Hopefully I can contribute something to some of you as well.
