Hello, I'm Jamie.
I am drawn to photography because it is my salve for the chaos and anxiety of my everyday life.
As a mother of two young girls, my days are filled with unrelenting, dizzying forward motion – diaper changing, jacket zipping, giggling, teeth brushing, playing, tucking in and re-tucking, and snuggling (a little too tightly) as they drift off to sleep. As I lie in bed at night, I wonder, am I doing a good job? Will they turn out okay? And, when was the last time Emma had a bath?
Photography is a gift. It forces simultaneous separation and connection. When I look through my lens, I let go of distractions and worries about the future and embrace what is in front of me.
Through my photography I aspire to capture moments in time and bring them to life in a way that offers meaning for others. While we can’t stop the passing of time, I hope my photographs can serve as lasting artifacts of moments frozen amongst life’s perpetual motion – a fresh snowfall, a newborn’s tiny feet, a grandmother’s last embrace – that inspire an old memory, a good story, a needed laugh or cry.
“The best thing about a picture is that it never changes, even when the people in it do.”
