I use Flickr primarily to post pictures of myself with county courthouses that I visit. While I receive genuine enjoyment from the architecture, history, and politics surrounding these buildings, my goal is much more interpersonal. It is not a quest to document for historical purposes or as a "challenge." Instead, it is a way for me to connect with people everywhere. Courthouses are one of the few places where nearly all people have a memorable experience, for good and bad reasons. Perhaps you yourself were there to receive your first driver's license, challenge a property tax assessment on your home, or speak as a witness at trial. They are also locally focused and deal primarily with our everyday lives. This egalitarian characteristic sparks a more acute connection in ways that state capitols and tourist destinations cannot provide.

In 2016, my wife and I began visiting Nebraska's counties. This is where my passion for county courthouses began. We finished visiting all 93 counties in Nebraska in early 2018. It was not until later in 2018 when I decided I would take images with other courthouses I came across. Since then, I have been visiting more courthouses slowly and surely, mostly in the Great Plains and Great Lakes regions. I also like to visit NCAA Division I and R-1 Research universities when I travel.

My hometown is Cortland, Gage County, Nebraska, a small bedroom community south of Lincoln. I attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (go Huskers!), studying political science, classics, and psychology, class of 2019. After graduation I began working at the Center for Rural Affairs and moved to Oakland, Burt County, Nebraska. In both my professional and personal life, I am working to improve rural communities across the United States. I attended law school at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Washtenaw County, Michigan and am now living in Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan, where I work at a law firm. Aside from this I enjoy walking and hiking, reading, DIY activities, and watching NASCAR, college football, and rodeo.
