I’m a 50+ year old, sort-of semi-retired photographer. I’ve been involved in the photography business, one way or another, since 1987.
I started in the photo lab developing other people’s prints, eventually deciding to try my luck with a camera. The first photos were ‘eh’, but with good advice and practice, I eventually became ‘aight’. My first models were young dancers I knew from a local community theatre. Over the next decade, I exposed over 25,000 frames of film.
Eventually, like everyone, I switched to digital. Unlike some, I never looked back. This was in the early days of Photoshop and operating systems (looking at you Windows ’98), but it was fun learning to manipulate the huge 1.8 megapixel files. I started adding and removing elements of the images just because I could. Worked to make them ‘high art’ with varying degrees of success.
Once everyone started using Photoshop to over process their images and dropping on Instagram filters (IG filters: the easy and quickest way to fuck up a perfectly good photo) I went the other way. Now, outside of getting rid of a zit or two and some basic color correction, I try to everything in-camera in order to manipulate my images as little as possible.
Since kind-of retiring, I thought it was time to get all my images sorted and organized. While going through them, I decided to share a few. If nothing else, I could see how my style changed over the years. I hope you enjoy this sampling of my work.
